Absolut pioneered the market for flavored vodka in the 1980s, with the release of the now legendary Absolut Peppar and Absolut Citron. What started with two, has evolved into a collection of 17 flavors.
Tasting Characteristics
Vibrant and fresh aroma of Citron showcases a straight forward and well-balanced lemon flavored vodka. Smooth, mellow and fruity with fresh citrus fruits. The finish is long and smooth.
The process
In 1879, Lars Olsson Smith introduced continuous distillation, through which he produced Absolut Rent Brannvin (Absolut Vodka Pure). Instead of distilling three or four times, the vodka went through countless distillations. Absolut Citron is prepared in the same way. The only difference is the taste of lemon and, like the rest of the family, it is also produced in Ahus, Sweden, the birthplace of Lars Olsson Smith. As none of this is going to change, so will the taste of Absolut Citron. The main ingredients of Absolut Citron are Absolut Vodka and lemon flavor. Absolut Vodka is made from water and winter wheat. The water comes from a deep well in Ahus, protected from pollutants. Winter wheat is also grown in Ahus and differs from other crops: sown in autumn and harvested in the same period of the following year. In the meantime, it grows under the Swedish snow, growing its hard seeds. The use of fertilizers is limited. Although lemon is its main ingredient, lime is also added, so that both together give Absolut Citron its perfect character.
