Monsieur Nicolas, a French nobleman, coming to a Greek village west of Karditsa, in 1455, brought with him the French wine culture and his love for the cultivation of the vine. This led him to deal with a local red variety, which existed since ancient times in this area. The common people then gave the name of Monsieur Nicolas to the variety, as a small recognition of his contribution to the productive development and wine history of the region. The same name was used by Yiannis Karamitros for his winery.
