Dewar John & Sons

There were several reasons behind Tommy and John Alexander Dewar's decision to build their whiskey still in the heart of Highland Perthshire. The presence of an excellent natural water source in The Pitilie Burn which runs past the distillery on The River Tay, was no doubt a big factor. There were also excellent rail transport links to nearby Perth, bringing fuel and barley to the distillery and returning the final product for blending and bottling. This made the process of bringing whiskey to market very efficient. The latter reason may have been emotional. The humble farm where our founder John Dewar was born is just three miles from Aberfeldy in the small village of Dull, so the building of Aberfeldy by his sons was a homecoming of sorts.
