The area of Magdelaine is probably the first area planted with vines in the whole of Saint Emilion, since vines have been shown to have been there since at least the 6th century. The Moueix family bought in 1954 the largest part of the area and made it Chateau Magdelaine, which then, in 2012, merged with Chateau Belair Monange. The last, relatively small, piece of Magdalaine is known as the Clos de Madeleine, the g somewhere having been lost after so many centuries. In September 2017, Christian Moueix purchased Clos la Madeleine, bringing all of Magdelaine into family hands. A historic site that couldn't be in better hands.
